WicklowNews.net, the county’s first free news website, began life just over one year ago.
Its goal was to bring accurate and up-to-date news to the county of Wicklow. In addition, the website aimed to inform the community of events, functions etc – through our Local News section – and, in a nationwide first, WicklowNews.net aimed to list the passing of every person in one database, to keep the county’s citizens aware of funeral services throughout the county. In recent months we have also added a Sports section.
The website was founded by Stephen Dunne, a former national newspaper journalist, and Michael Kelly, a national award winning photographer – both from County Wicklow.
In just a year, the business has grown beyond what we ever imagined. Our weekly online readership currently is consistently between 20,000 and 30,000 people – most of whom click in every day to keep abreast of the latest news. The readership is growing week-on-week as a result of our commitment to accurate and informative journalism and photography. Already WicklowNews.net has a similar readership level to that of any local regional newspaper.
a modern world, as newspaper sales and radio listenership figures decline, people of all ages are increasingly moving online to access news. We occupy a very specific niche and hope to grow in the coming years.
Our aim at WicklowNews.net is simple: We want to bring up-to-date news to the people of Wicklow, about the people of Wicklow – for free. So stay logged-on to make sure you are abreast of the latest from around the county.
