Wicklow Hospice Foundation Update

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

It’s that time of year again, new plans and new ideas! Wicklow Hospice Foundation has plenty of the above as it surges forward into 2012 to try and reach their target of 3 million euros to build the stand alone specialist unit for the people of Wicklow.

The new Wicklow Hospice shop (beside the post office)

New Wicklow Hospice Shop

A big welcome to Eliz Symes who has opened the new Hospice shop beside the post office.

All the proceeds from this shop come directly to WHF. Please remember Liz when you are throwing out your old clothes, bric a brac and furniture. Liz is very happy to collect from your homes.

Tell your friends all about it.

WHF would also like to thank Jenny and her volunteers from ‘Jenny’s Glad Rags’ who contributed to WHF over the last few years. We wish them well in their new venture.

Many thanks to the people of Wicklow

WHF could not possibly thank individually all the people who help them in so many ways. The generosity of the Wicklow people is beyond compare. It helps to keep us focussed on our goal and we are continually reminded of the importance of this unit for the County.

Crystal Magic...

Most of you will be aware of the Dublin Crystal Christmas decorations which were on sale at the end of last year. Miriam thanks everyone who helped with the sales of these but especially the students of Dominican College, Wicklow, Presentation, Bray and Loretto Bray.

They put such a lot of work into it and made a lot of money. Where would we be without the youth? Young people are asking about the Hospice all the time and are continuously running events on our behalf. All the students are now selling the crystal hearts for Valentines day.

... and Valentines

Not only the students have got involved for Valentines but Kate in ‘Flower Power’, Main St. Wicklow has also agreed to take part. For every €40 spent on flowers for Valentines, one will receive a crystal heart and Kate will make a donation to WHF. Also, the ‘Wicklow Wine Company’, Main St. Wicklow, have the Crystal hearts on sale in their shop and ‘Linda’s Flowers’ in Greystones, is selling them too

Where we are at...

Where are WHF at now with their plans and their fund raising? Well the funds are at 1.845million. They are talking with architects, planners and operators and following their business plan to keep everything on track, to start building in early 2013. What a joy it will be to see that first sod being turned!

They now have an office on Main St. Wicklow. While they sell small things like crystals, books etc. It is mainly a centre of information, where people can make their donations, collect their sponsor cards, T-shirts and in general find out about the Hospice, offer to help and share their fund raising ideas.

WHF Coffee Morning Friday 10th February

Our next big event in this part of the county is our Coffee Morning /Cake Sale on Feb.10th.from 10.30am - 1pm. Thank you to the Grand Hotel Wicklow for their generosity in allowing us the use of their premises. Please tell your friends and neighbours about it and if you know of anyone who would like to bake, please ask them. Come along and have a chat over a cuppa, there is also a free gift with every coffee or tea!!

The benefits of recycling

The recycyling depot in Avoca

The recycyling depot in Avoca run by Myles Doyle and his team has been most productive over the last year.

Every time you put your clothes in these containers WHF benefits, as they are emptied regularly, weighed and we are then paid. Myles and his team are very committed to WHF and we thank them for their generosity of time and effort.

So if you know of anyone who has space for a container, please get in contact with us. The more containers we have around the county the more money we can add to the fund, which is already at a staggering 1.845million.

There is a container in the recycling depot in Wicklow (Murrough) which Liz uses for the shop. Please encourage your family and friends to donate to these containers and to the shop.
