Hillwalkers left sickened after poachers leave deer remains on walking path
Hillwalkers have been left sickened after poachers left deer remains on a popular walking path.
The discovery was made by hillwalkers last Wednesday morning when they set out for a walk up Croghan from Ballykilagear close to Ballycoogue.
One hillwalker said "They were shot over night because we only walked up the hill on Tuesday evening and they were not there then."
Heads and legs of young deer which had been hacked from their body were dumped at the entry of the walk.
A legitimate deer hunter who inspected the remains told Wicklownews.net "These are young deer which are being shot out of season and also during the night which is illegal."
"It is this type of action that give deer hunters a bad name, what we have here are calves and hinds and the season for shooting them is not until the 1st of November.
Similar incidents have also been reported in the Asknagap and Aughavanagh area.
