Give a dog a Chance

New Wicklow not-for-profit group acting to promote animal welfare and adoption over euthanasia.
Chance is a not-for-profit network of concerned dog rescuers and fosterers newly set up in 2012 to take a proactive approach to assisting and supporting new and existing agencies and State Departments to assess, advertise and rehome all stray and surrendered dogs.
Our main aims are as follows:
To liaise with Wicklow Pound, the County Council, and the ISPCA in support of a proactive re-homing policy.
To volunteer our services to Wicklow Pound in order to: a) photograph dogs to aid in identification, and hopefully reunite dogs with their owners; b) identify which dogs are available for re-homing, and c) to spend time with the dogs in order to provide accurate descriptions of them.
To display photographs and descriptions of the dogs through voluntary agencies throughout Ireland and the UK, and through advertising and social media outlets to support our aims in re-homing pound dogs responsibly.
To build a database of fosterers and rescue centres who are willing to rehome dogs on an emergency basis until the ISPCA or rescue centres have assessed potential new homes.
To transport on a voluntary basis, rescue dogs to registered fosterers and rescue centres.
To engage with and act in partnership with Wicklow Co Council and the ISPCA on achieving a No-Kill target for homeless dogs.
We believe that the public has a right to expect animal protection organizations, animal shelters and pounds to do everything in their power to promote, protect, and advocate for the lives of animals; rescuers have a right to take into their custody animals who would otherwise be killed by animal shelters and pounds; taxpayers and community members have a right to have their government spend tax monies on programs and services whose purpose is to save and enhance the lives of all animals; and we have a right to full and complete disclosure about how pounds operate.
No Kill is a humane, sustainable, cost-effective model that works hand in hand with public health and safety, while fulfilling a fiscal responsibility to taxpayers. Any pound or shelter that refuses to embrace this model is wasting money, wasting lives, and undermining our values. Please investigate Wicklow Pound and help put a stop to it. Chance fully support a No Kill policy for all pounds and shelters, and hope to work with the council and the ISPCA to change the outcome for dogs entering Wicklow Pound. We are a non-profit group offering help and assistance in reuniting dogs with their owners and rehoming dogs who need homes. We ask only that we be allowed to help.
