Courtown crash survivors to be interviewed by Gardai

Two survivors of a tragedy which claimed the life of Mark Farrell (19), from the Cushlawn estate in Tallaght after he drowned when an SUV went into the sea at Courtown Harbour in Co Wexford are to be interviewed by gardai.

Gardai are also investigating the theft of an SUV from a local businessman.

Three male teenagers were in the 4x4 at Ballinatray, Courtown, at around 10.30pm on Friday when it collided with a wall before entering the water at Courtown Harbour.

Two of the teenagers swam to safety after the SUV went into the water. The third man, a 19-year-old, was later taken from the water by Coast Guard and emergency services personnel.

However, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Yesterday the scene remained cordoned off and preserved for a full technical examination. Gardai asked anyone with information to contact Gorey garda station, 053 9430690, or the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666 111.
