'Jim Mills Memorial Park' opened in Donard

A large crowd turned up in Donard on Sunday for the renaming of the local Donard/Glen GAA pitch as the 'Jim Mills Memorial Park' in memory of groundsman Jim Mills who tragically died at a Donard/Glen championship match in August 2009.
Jim held a number of positions at the club including President. He was well know as the man who opened up the grounds and was always the last man to leave. The renaming of the grounds was a fitting tribute for the well respected clubman.
Mary Mills unveiled a plaque at the entrance to the ground and this was followed by a challenge between Donard/Glen and Kiltegan for the Jim Mills Cup. Local referee John Whyte was in charge and there were no 'hometown decisions' as the game ended with a 4-11 to 3-13 Kiltegan win.
Everybody was invited back to the local hall after the match where Mary presented the Jim Mills Cup to Kiltegan captain Padraig Keogh.
