Fish kill in river Vartry

There has been a reported fish kill in the Vartry River.

Wicklow county council's website issued the following statement.

Inland Fisheries and Wicklow County Council are currently carrying out inspection of the area to identify the source and cause of the reported fish kill.

As a precautionary measure Wicklow County Council have temporarily shut off raw water supply intake from Vartry River to our Water Treatment plant at Cronroe.

The supply of treated water will not be affected by this precautionary action.

Hopefully the source of the fish kill is located soon and the proper action taken to prevent it happening again, its not the first time this has happened.

Agree Stan this is a dreadful event just when the river was beginning to have healthy runs of migratory fish. Demonstrates how fragile and vulnerable our rivers and eco systems are to pollution threats.
