Light aircraft crashes in Newcastle

The light aircraft that crashed on Friday evening

It has been reported that a light aircraft crashed in Newcastle aerodrome on Friday evening.

It is understood the plane with two men aboard was attempting an emergency landing around 8pm .

Fire units from Greystones and Bray attended the scene.

The chief flying officer at the airfield, John Nugent, said the two people onboard on the plane were not injured but the plane was destroyed.

He said three units from the fire brigade attended the scene but the plane did not go on fire.

A spokesman for the Air Accident Investigation Unit said that the plane had been transported to a hangar and would be inspected today (Saturday).
