Avoca news week 20 August

Avoca Camogie
It's that time of year of year again when the Camogie Championship is in full swing. Having lost the last two county finals the Avoca girls are hoping to go one step further this year. However this year's Intermediate Championship is shaping up to be a close affair.
In the first round Avondale accounted for Arklow Rocks on a scorline of 4:17 to 0:4. Avoca played Carnew and had to fight all the way to come away with a victory by one point, score Avoca 13pts to Carnew 3:3.
Two very strong teams met in the second round and after 70 minutes of very good camogie Kiltegan were victorious over Avondale, score Kiltegan 1:13 Avondale 1:7.
Meanwhile the Avoca girls played Arklow Rocks and secured their second victory on a scorline of Avoca 3:9 to Arklow Rocks 1:6. At this stage in the championship Kiltegan would appear to be the strongest team in it but they are very closely followed by a much improved Avondale team. With three more rounds to be played it could end up very close at the end.
Training for the girls continues on Monday's and Thursday's down in the field and with more training and a bit of luck the Avoca girls should be there or thereabouts when it comes to the knockout stages. Well Done Girls.
