Council tenants will be asked to pay property tax-Doyle

By WicklowNews.net,

Council tenants WILL be asked to pay property tax.

That’s according to the Fine Gael TD for Wicklow Andrew Doyle.

Earlier today he told Declan Meehan host of East Coast FM’s Morning Show that the value-based tax which is to be introduced by the middle of next year will be extended to those renting from local authorities despite the fact that they don’t own their own homes.

Deputy Doyle said "It's not rocket science to value anything but I don't think it'll be strictly on the value of the house. As I understand it, there will be a minimum payment for all."

This is no longer to be seen as a property tax. This is now about to become a poll tax, the same as the English tax

How much is a minimum payment to the government keep in mind that some of these people can hardly afford to feed their families or pay the bills that are already coming in.

When will this Government realise, they can’t squeeze any more from people who don’t have it!

Just a thought. If we closed the pubs and off licences; deli counters, fast food outlets and sweet shops most people could afford to pay the local charges. On the other hand, we could ask the local authorities to stop servicing water supplies, switch off street lights, stop filling in potholes and maintaining council properties and stop subsidising local ammenities like playgrounds and sports facilities, then we wouldn't need to pay the charges. It strikes me as a no brainer that we pay our taxes. But then, our public sector could save us a lot of pain by cutting waste and getting its payroll costs into proper shape. Too many chiefs and not enough indians. I feel that when I pay a tax most of it goes on stuff I don't need.

Funny you could shut the list of business's at the beginning and it would change a thing for me...... Swtiching street lights off would have minimal effect also. In fact I think it should be done regardless. As for the pot holes they take 6 to 8 months to fill them as it is so very little effect there also..... Maintaining council properties doesnt effct me either nor does the playgrounds or the sports facilities.... With the state of the water I get and the fact that you can smell the chemicals off of it means its dangerous to drink anyway...... So after going through your little exercise its blatantly obvious the tax I'm paying at the moment does me very little good..... And you want me to pay more now??????
