Conservation group concerned at development on the Murrough

By WicklowNews.net,

The Friends of the Murrough group in Wicklow town are concerned about Waterbrand Holdings application for permission to develop a site at the Murrough for storage of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) of up to 5000 tonnes capacity.

RDF is the final waste material which cannot be recycled, which is then baled in plastic for export as fuel. The facility is seeking 24/7 opening times and will employ existing workers (no new jobs).

Friends of the Murrough will be querying control measures to deal with noise, odours and pests - particularly rats and flies which thrive on waste materials, as well as measures to deal with leachates, contaminents or other poisons which might impact on this environmentally sensitive area.

Documents relating to this application can be inspected and observations made during the course of the next couple of weeks at Wicklow Co Council offices.
